CommentsMarti Mclauglin says... We found this garage in a toy store. My 2 1/2 year old son already had a fisher price little people garage, so I tried to steer him away from this one. He had a gift certificate, and this was the toy he picked, out of an entire store full of options. I finally gave in and let him purchase it, and I'm very glad we did. He plays with it all the time, and I can see it will last him for many years, where he has outgrown the little people one. This is a well made, beautiful wooden toy. Yes, the ramps keep coming off, but otherwise it's great. The little man that comes with it is really cute, and the little car is adorable, too. We have added other plan city toys, and they're all well made, durable toys. they are also a perfect scale for hot wheels or matchbox cars. I highly recommend this toy for any child who likes cars. This is probably my son's favorite toy.He spends hours running his cars up and down the ramps and lining his cars up in various fashions. He doesn't use the elevator much even though I think this is a cool part of this toy.It could be because the elevator takes some work and dexterity that he doesn't quite have at 3.This toy is very sturdy. Two minor issues with this toy.The ramps come off easy as another reviewer said and also there are holes into the elevator shaft.I have had to take part of the garage apart on two occasions when my son found things to put in the holes.Overall a great toy. This book gives you a large variety of designs and styles to consider. It was just what we were looking for!We were able to combine a couple of ideas to build the perfect garage/guest house! Our builder had no problem just using the pictures and diagrams from the book.If you're a do-it-yourselfer, you can order the plans.(Everyone in the neighborhood compliments our new guest house/garage! Posted on October 10, 2010 Aubrey Halphen says... I'm a fan of Plan Toys and was very excited to buy this item for my 23-month old (car crazy) son. The garage has been a disappointment to us both overall, and here is why: 1. It's smaller than I expected it to be. 2. Unless it's elevated on a table or other object, it it is hard to play with. If it's on the ground it's virtually impossible to use the bottom deck (where the gas pumps are), and pretty hard to use the middle deck as well. 3. It doesn't work well with matchbox cars and trucks; you really do need to us Plan Toys' (small lighweight) little cras - other vehicles are just too big. 4. The two ramps just rest on two little pegs at the top of each, so they come off all the time. They were not designed to be permenently affixed to the structure, so unless you crazy glue them down they will pop off a lot. Very bad design! Also, even when they are on their pegs they are not flush against the garage, and the little gap means cars don't roll down very easily. Though it has good qualities, this is not a toy I would recommend. Kaplan Early Learning Company makes much better, sturdier wooden parking garage - check it out instead of this one before making a purchase. Posted on October 11, 2010 Jenine Arana says... This book offers a very extraordinary group of ideas in the form of sketches, however that is as far as you will get with the 101 projects you can build yourself. Each project has a plan number that requires thespeculative do-it-yourselfer to spend 20 to 85 dollars on a blueprint thatmost profesional builders won't even touch. In summary, the plans are toocomplicated for the weekend warrior, and the materials needed to buildthese elaberate structures will blow any do-it-your-selfers budget. You canget some good ideas from this book, but that is it. I was very happy to have choosen this book. The have a look in side feature helped a great deal with deciding to purchase this book. Although it wasn't for me personally, the person I ordered it for was happy with th purchase because it contained everything he originally wanted. Amazon is AWESOME. Posted on October 13, 2010 Christine Snaples says... This book is basically a list of plans for sale by the Hanley Wood Company. Most of the designs look rather dated to me, I would guess many of these were designed in the 1960's and 70's.I didn't find any particularly interesting or useful ideas here, most designs were either very simple or much too ornate & contrived for my taste. It's rather misleading to call this a "book" and say it was "wriitten by" and author, it is really more of a large sales brochure dressed up as a paperback book. My 3 year old grandson LOVES it. I have nothing bad to say. Posted on October 14, 2010 Jessika Husk says... We bought this garage for our son's third birthday. It is much more durable than the new plastic models, and he plays with it for an hour at a time. The car that comes with it is nice with rubber wheels, but hot wheels and matchbox cars work well, too. His 8-year-old brother even enjoys playing with this garage. I would definitely recommend--good quality, which I would expect for the price.
