Did you know that state regulations prevent some home inspectors from moving, lifting or detaching anything even when they suspect a problem?Or that some real estate agents recommend friends to inspect a home and both parties benefit from the transaction? When you're making the largest purchase of your life, you want not only a reliable home inspector but a detailed guide so nothing is overlooked or forgotten.

Written in a straightforward manner and divided in easily referenced chapters, this book includes chapter headings such as: asbestos, radon testing and other serious health and safety concerns, what and how to inspect inside a home, the kitchen, bathroom, basement, electrical wiring, plumbing, attic, heating/cooling, appliances, exterior doors/windows, siding and foundation. Each chapter is divided into subheadings that take the reader, step-by-step, through the same checklist a good inspector will have.

With sound advice on how to select an inspector, where to look for one, what to be cautious of, this book trains the reader on how to inspect a house as both a buyer and seller. Handy checklists can be copied and used during and after the inspection. It is also helpful in describing what to look for when house hunting to help narrow down selections. It's a valuable maintenance resource to continue to use years after you've moved into your perfect, trouble free home.

I couldn't believe the amount of damage I found in my home after watching this DVD!Amazing.I live in Kentucky and I guess the houses out here are a little "under the weather" you could say.

I'm a house wife and recently got interested in learning more about my home and how to fix things around the house.I am SO glad that I got this DVD.It's so easy to watch and real professional.I couldn't believe it was only 20 dollars!I also bought the toilet repair DVD.That's great too.I can't wait till they come out with more.

I would definetly buy this DVD if you want to know how to find what's wrong with your home.Real Quality.Super fast shipping too.Altogether excellent!

I needed some information because I am looking to buy a home for my family and I bought Identifying Problems.Identifying Problems is new with current information and is very clear, easy to understand. You can see in detail exactly what is being identified as the detailed information about all aspects of the home are discussed. There are no "stars of the show" only the examination of a lot of homes like the ones I have been looking at.I have found the exact same types of problems as discussed in the DVD and I think it is very worth while. When I make an offer on a home and I will hire a home inspector, and I will be able to understand what he is pointing out as well as ask questions about what I have learned in this DVD.This is a well layed out, easy to follow DVD that allowes you to surf through it and to find what you are looking for without having to listen to entire sections to find a specific item. For the price this is a great deal, not a waste of your time.

It's a headache to buy online with only perfect customer comments to base your decision on and then later being disappointed with your purchase. You have to be weary about products sold online with customer comments that are all positive and no negative. You don't get an accurate picture and that seems to be the case with this dvd.

Don't think that by watching this dvd that you will go out there and start repairing and inspecting your house. You need alot more information and you will need to learn alot more about house building parts and do some proper construction training. However the dvd is interesting and you will get a few ideas on what you should do. The dvd explains some different parts of houses but does no get too deep.Overall it has some benefit but not like the other customer comments say.

The most critical error a person can make when buying a home is not truly looking at the home. Sure, we peer into the cupboards and measure the closet space and admire that beautiful, wonderful bay window. But what about storm drainage? Do we know where the next heavy rain is going to pool? What could have caused that little crack along the chimney and what is it going to do from here? How big a problem is that bulge in the retaining wall near the driveway? It is not the beautiful things in our homes that give us the most trouble and cost us the most money, but the mundane ones. Quite often the they are the hardest to see because we don't know what we're looking for.

Eyes Wide Open shows you what to look for. In detail. It not only explains in layman's language floor structures and fireplaces, but illustrates every structural part of the house, both what it ought to look like and the tell-tale signs that can signal bigger problems. It explains the (literal) tools that you should always bring with you on a home tour and how and where to use them. It explains building codes, why they change, and how to insure your new house is compliant with them. It features checklists so you don't have to remember everything yourself. It also contains a full glossary of housing, finance, and structural terms so you not only know the right questions to ask, but can understand the answers and their implications.

This is an indispensable reference for those who are buying homes in the current market, where repossessions are common and the owners are not always available to answer questions. Written by a home inspector, Eyes Wide Open will teach the prospective buyer how to look at a home the way a structural engineer does: with an eye toward what problems can be expected and how they can be avoided before they occur. And just think how much more you'll enjoy that beautiful bay window when it doesn't overlook a flooded, washed out back yard.

Larry and Lisa Wood have done an excellent job in this book of letting anyone purchasing a new home to know what key things to check for in the house before purchasing it. This book helps you to inspect and assess the condition of the home from the exterior and throughout the interior. The colored pictures provide great detail not easily seen in black and white. They also cover preparing for the purchase of your home. Their education and life experiences have enabled them to write an informative book on "home buying without surprises".
