My son-in-law had this to help him remodel his bathroom and recommended it highly. We borrowed it for a few days and decided we had to have our own copy to guide us along on our two bathroom remodels planned for this winter. We have already learned much. My husband and I are re-doing 3 bathrooms in our home and are looking for ideas. This book was very helpful. It is nicely put together and has lots of pictures which is key when searching for ideas.I would definitely recommend this book to someone looking to renovate. Posted on October 5, 2010 Kizzie Antonovich says... I had high hopes for this book. With two bathroom remodels in my future, I expected/hoped to find info. and ideas that I wasn't already aware of through other sources. To be honest, I found it about as useful as walking through my local home improvement center, or taking a home tour. Pretty pictures (great for dreaming of that mansion you might live in one day), a small section on products available, nothing more, nothing less. I was also hoping for a book that offered at least a few ideas for smaller baths. Not all of us want a spa in our home, nor do we want or have a bathroom that fits an entire family. Some of us live in older homes with no room to 'borrow' from, and no way to expand the room we have. When I saw the picture on page 14 for the 'compact master bath', not only did I laugh, but I thought, these people have no idea what compact is! And they don't, as is evident by the rest of the book. There is nothing in this book that isn't already covered in the other bathroom books I've seen (and with more detail). I expected more from Taunton Press. If you have lots of room to expand, or already have a large bathroom and want ideas of the high end ways you can update, go for it. If you live in the real world and need ideas for real bathrooms, save yourself the money and check this book out of your local library if you think you might be interested. If you have a small bath that you need/want ideas for, look elsewhere, like perhaps an IKEA catalog. Posted on October 5, 2010 Era Gittleman says... Lots of pictures and things to consider. We have the same series book for kitchens. well worth the investment. Posted on October 5, 2010 Rachal Gaunt says... I've read some other Taunton "pro" books that were much better. This one was pretty superficial. The book was too focused on what the particular author's bathroom project was like.It also seemed like the author was trying to get in plugs for various particular products that most of us will not ever use.Particularly for electrical wiring issues, I strongly recommend that readers readan excellent book, Rex Cauldwell's "for pros by pros" electrical wiring book, the latest edition. Posted on October 6, 2010 Alfred Tronaas says... I agree with the other reviewer that this book glossed over a lot of things, but I don't find that too big a problem.I've gotten other books on electrical, plumbing, and tiling that fill in a lot of the missing details. What I liked about this book was the top-down project management view it gave, which is helping me strategize what to do when on my bathroom overhaul.I read through it once at the beginning, now I'm part way through the job (demolition done, plumbing roughed in, and subfloor fixed) and still find myself checking back as I get to each next step. That's giving me an idea of what to look out for as I get to each next step (electrical, tub, vanity, and tile), from there I just go to my other books and the internet with my questions....
